2015 Annual General Meeting
In his presentation to members, ECCT Chairman Barkey reported that 2015 was a very successful year for the chamber that included frequent engagement with government ministries and agencies throughout the year, helping to further promote members' business interests. Membership rose to over 840 individual members and the quality and participation at events remained very high. In terms of advocacy, progress was made on over 20% of the issues raised in the 2015 Position Papers, a similar level compared to previous years. Barkey noted that the ECCT was extremely active during the year, holding activities which included Premium Events, committee meetings and government visits. High profile activities included the Europe Day Dinner, Premium, Special and Committee Events which attracted high profile guest speakers from Taiwan and Europe.
The chamber continued to increase its activities nationwide by visiting mayors and participating in activities in Kaohsiung, Tainan and Hsinchu County and setting up the Southern Taiwan committee, the chamber's second regional committee, following the establishment of the Central Taiwan committee, based in Taichung. ECCT members and the secretariat also arranged or participated in numerous conferences, seminars and forums in conjunction with government agencies from both Taiwan and Europe. The chamber also participated in activities during the EU's first Mission for Growth to Taiwan from 3-5 June.
In his remarks Executive Supervisor Martin Lindström highlighted the chamber's cooperation with authorities both in Taiwan and the EU, including the second successful year of the EU-Taiwan Business and Regulatory Cooperation (EBRC) Programme, which is funded and coordinated by the European Union and run by the ECCT. This year six seminars were arranged under the programme on subjects such as food safety, electric vehicles, online copyright and consumer protection. He noted that the seminars have been very useful to both Taiwan authorities and ECCT members by providing up-to-date information on European regulations and promoting the best European standards and practices in Taiwan. Lindström also singled out the ECCT's Low Carbon Initiative, which he said continues to go from strength to strength with growing membership, increased cooperation with central and municipal governments and high profile events. He described the LCI as an established and recognized brand of the ECCT that sets the chamber apart as a progressive leader and promoter of low carbon development in Taiwan.
