The ECCT was a supporting organiser of wNational Taiwan University's (NTU) 2019 Global Initiatives Symposium (GIS). 2019 Global Initiatives Symposium was a five-day symposium that took place from 8th to 12nd July, and was organised by NTU's Office of Student Affairs and supported by its Office of International Affairs and brought together academics, industry professionals and around 250 local and international students to discuss globally-significant issues and trends.
At the opening ceremony, ECCT Chairman Giuseppe Izzo gave a speech and ECCT Executive Director & Low Carbon Initiative (LCI) Steering Committee member, Bart Linssen, gave a presentation. Also at the opening ceremony, speeches were given by NTU President Kuan Chung-ming, Liu Anting, Founder of Teach for Taiwan and Bruce Cheng, Founder of Delta Electronics. Over the course of five days, representatives from LCI member companies including STMicroelectronics, Enercon, Siemens Taiwan, KPMG Sustainability Consulting and PwC, gave presentations or participated in panel discussions or workshops that were part of the programme.

With the broad theme of “Shifts and Shocks”, this year’s symposium arranged a series of activities on the subjects of wealth transfer and fintech, paradigm shifts and future education, the aging society and smart healthcare and environmental sustainability.
Among other LCI members participating in the 2019 GIS were Erdal Elver, ECCT Vice Chairman & President and CEO of Siemens Taiwan; Ang-Ting Shih, Associate Director, KPMG Sustainability Consulting; Victor Shen, Google Mobile & Assistant Solutions; Lily Wang, Partner, PWC Taiwan and Bart Linssen, ECCT LCI Steering Committee & Managing Director of Enercon GmbH Taiwan. Furthermore, in the Leader Dialogue, ECCT LCI Director Sammy Su participated as a host of the World Cafe Session to discuss sustainability issue.
