Welcome to the website of the European Chamber of Commerce Taiwan (ECCT)

Since the ECCT was founded as a not-for-profit organisation in 1988, we have been serving the interests European companies operating in Taiwan. From humble beginnings we have evolved into the largest foreign nationwide business chamber in Taiwan representing over 1000 individuals from some 450 companies and organisations, which have invested over 72 billion in Taiwan.

Through a network of 29 industry and support committees, two cross-committee platforms and proactive engagement over three decades, the ECCT has built up excellent relations with all levels of government, from national ministries and agencies to municipal authorities. Thanks to this solid foundation, frequent access and growing influence, recommendations to facilitate improving the business environment have been successful in addressing and resolving specific concerns. In addition, on the basis of our shared objective to promote economic development in Taiwan, we frequently cooperate with government and industry associations from Europe and Taiwan to arrange joint events such as conferences, seminars and forums to discuss regulatory issues and provide business networking and development opportunities for the benefit of European and Taiwanese companies. This is in addition to business, social events and meetings that we arrange on an almost daily basis for our members.

This website is the gateway to everything about the ECCT: what we stand for, who we represent and what we do. If you are already a member, I encourage you to dive in and get involved. And if you are not yet a member, join us!

Testimonials

"As a board director and co-chair of the ECCT’s Asset Management committee for over a decade, I have witnessed firsthand the respect and admiration the ECCT commands. The chamber’s activities have broadened my vision and deepened my knowledge of macroeconomics and geopolitical trends across multiple industries. Networking opportunities provided by the ECCT are invaluable for both business and leisure while insightful and effective communication with government agencies is commendable. I highly recommend the ECCT to anyone looking to enhance their professional and personal growth in a supportive and dynamic environment."

Francine Wu

Former Chairman of Schroder Investment Management (Taiwan) Ltd.

“After serving as a Board Director and Healthcare Sustainability Committee Co-chair in the ECCT for nearly a decade, I found that the combination of the knowledge and resources from member companies and the ECCT’s dialogue platform with government agencies creates a solid foundation for efficient advocacy and a better investment environment. Additionally, I’d recommend member companies’ management teams to encourage your colleagues to participate in ECCT events and committee work to explore the market trends, regulatory updates and cross-industry business opportunities.”

Irene Feng

Former Managing Director of Fresenius Kidney Care Taiwan

"Taiwan's new numbering system for Alien Resident Certificates and APRCs is a major step forward toward equality for all Taiwan residents. The ECCT's Better Living Committee played an instrumental role in advocating for this reform. As a matter of fact, the Better Living Committee is a driving force for positive change in Taiwan, with a mission that sets the ECCT apart from its peers. For this improved uniform ID number, which mirrors the format used on Taiwan National ID cards, we achieved this goal after a decade of hard work and dedication. This milestone will make it easier for foreign residents to conduct eCommerce and other online activities, and help enhance the Taiwan's living and business environment."

Tim Berge

General Manager International Community Radio Taipei – ICRT FM100

“After more than five years, my assignment in Taiwan and as such also my engagement with ECCT have come to an end. Having served both on the Board of Directors, as well as a Co-Chair of the Automotive Committee, I herewith express my sincere appreciation to both the entire ECCT staff, as well as the fellow board- and committee members for their great support. Having worked in various countries on four continents, the European Chamber of Commerce Taiwan for me is clear benchmark due to the professional advocacy approach, great access to Government representatives, member relations and for making a contribution to the people and the beautiful island of Taiwan (Eckart Mayer, August 2018)”

Eckart Mayer

Former President & CEO Mercedes-Benz Taiwan Ltd.

“The Swire group, which has maintained a presence in Taiwan since 1948, has been a contributing member of the ECCT since its establishment. We have participated in ECCT committees such as Automotive and CSR and assumed directorships on the ECCT board in various years. The ECCT has seen significant growth and development and now offers a bustling platform where effective communication and interaction with and among European companies operating in Taiwan (its members), the government and the community, is made not only possible but effective. I encourage you to join one or two of the ECCT's committees – covering sectors from Automotive to Travel & Tourism – and to attend special lunches to take full advantage of becoming an ECCT member.”

Derrick Chan

Former Chairman, Swire Group Taiwan

“The ECCT provides an excellent platform to expand your network in Taiwan, providing access to the top business leaders in every industry. The ECCT also provides its members with direct access to top government leaders and government departments. The icing on the cake is that the ECCT also holds spectacular social functions which bring together the business community in a fun venue. This is a must join organization for Taiwan no matter what industry one is engaged in.”

Godwin Chang

Former Group Country Head, Societe Generale Taipei Branch

“Organizing meaningful and high quality events is one of the strengths of the ECCT. These activities helps keep us informed, involved and connected. They serve as a bridge between our company and Taiwan's policy makers as well as business communities.” “I believe it is incredibly important for Siemens to be active in and support a multi-faceted and premier organization such as the ECCT. The Chamber combines local resources with international networks which serve as a bridge to effective commercial contact of mutual benefit to business communities in Taiwan. It also provides excellent platforms to get connected with policymakers of the highest level in the government.”

Erdal Elver

President & CEO, Siemens Limited Taiwan

"When l took up my Taiwan country head role back in 2010, ECCT helped a great deal in connecting me to business leaders and community. Besides representing members' interest, ECCT provides members the platform to share with government, scholars and industry the overseas best practices. The ECCT Low Carbon Initiative (LCI), active since 2012 is one great example. When it comes to leisure and fun, ECCT organizes fabulous social events for members and families. Come and join us!"

Eng Leong GOH

Former Managing Director, BASF Taiwan Ltd.

"The ECCT is the representative of all European companies to ensure that our interests are recognised by the Taiwanese Government. In addition, it provides a great networking platform to meet interesting people, for business and for fun.”

Uwe Halstenbach

Former Managing Director TÜV Rheinland Taiwan

"Over the past three years ECCT has grown tremendously the activities into new and different areas. New projects include the Low Carbon Initiative, the GNN.Asia and now the EBRC. These are great networking platforms , aimed at fostering partnerships between European and Taiwanese Enterprises. Free Trade Agreements or Bilateral Investment Agreements remain a backbone of the Chamber and multiple initiatives keep unfolding in this area, both locally and internationally. The relations with the Local Authorities, bot at Central and Local Governments, have significantly stepped up and so have the relations with the EU Commission, the EU Office in Taiwan and the State Member Representative Offices in Taiwan. All these relations make easier to reach our goal of Harmonizing Regulatory differences across multiple Industries, therefore facilitating the Business Activities for ECCT Members."

Giuseppe Izzo

MD Taiwan & VP, Asia Pacific Region STMicroelectronics Ltd.

"The ECCT has been effective in presenting the case for European business in Taiwan and has given us privileged access to policymakers at the highest level in the government. Over the last few years the insurance committee has also been successful at getting its point across on industry matters and has made good progress on some important issues. This would be hard to achieve on a company-by-company basis."

Chris James

Former Chairman, Allianz Taiwan Life Insurance Company
