ECCT's LCI and GWEC to hold Global Offshore Wind Summit – Taiwan Virtual on 12-14 Oct. 2020

Following the success of 2019 event, the Global Offshore Wind Summit – Taiwan Virtual will take place on 12-14 Oct. 2020. Organised by the European Chamber of Commerce Taiwan – Low Carbon Initiative (ECCT-LCI) and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), this official industry event will be co-organised by the Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) and Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC) and endorsed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA).

Despite ongoing travel and event restrictions as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, in order to drive momentum in this rapidly growing offshore wind market, we are thrilled to announce that we will hold a Global Offshore Wind Summit – Taiwan Virtual on the original dates of 12-14 October 2020. The GOWST 2020 physical conference & exhibition will be postponed to April 2021 at the Hua Nan Financial Holdings Conference Centre in Taipei. 

The GOWST Virtual will keep the global prominence and significance by driving discussions on the most urgent opportunities and issues facing the offshore wind industry in Taiwan and provide an exclusive platform to network with leading industry stakeholders to create new business and growth opportunities. 

Taiwan’s President Tsai on 12 Nov. 2019 announced that Taiwan is to add an additional 10GW of capacity between 2026 and 2035, thereby doubling the country's current target. GWEC Market Intelligence forecasts that Taiwan is set to become the second largest offshore wind market in Asia, with over 15GW of offshore wind capacity expected to be added over the next ten years. Taiwan serves to benefit greatly from a booming offshore market to stimulate the local economy, creating green jobs, investment in local infrastructure, and becoming an export hub for the growing offshore industry.

Here is what you can expect at Global Offshore Wind Summit - Taiwan Virtual:

• Participation by senior Taiwan government leaders including the Vice Premier, the Minister of Economic Affairs (MOEA), Director Generals from the Bureau of Energy (BOE), Industrial Development Bureau (IDB), and Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI), who will share the most updated policy insights on Taiwan’s offshore wind development.
• Live keynote speeches and panel discussions with industry thought leaders driving the growth of offshore wind in Taiwan and beyond
  Breakout sessions focusing on key topics and issues for growing Taiwan’s offshore wind industry

鑑於2019年高峰會的圓滿成功，【2020全球離岸風電產業高峰會-台灣 線上論壇】 將於2020年10月12-14日舉辦，本活動由歐洲商會-低碳倡議行動 (ECCT LCI)及全球風能理事會 (GWEC)共同主辦，臺灣港務公司 (TIPC)及金屬工業研究發展中心 (MIRDC)協辦，並由中華民國經濟部 (MOEA)擔任指導單位。

台灣與世界各國受到 COVID-19疫情影響，國際差旅及活動受大極大限制。即使如此，為了因應快速變化的風電市場並提出最即時的政策及產業剖析，我們將於2020年10月12-14日舉辦 【2020全球離岸風電產業高峰會-台灣 線上論壇】，持續推動台灣離岸風電市場發展。【第二屆全球離岸風電產業高峰會-台灣】實體大會及展覽則將延至2021年4月於台北-華南銀行國際會議中心盛大舉行。

台灣總統蔡英文於2019年11月12日宣布，在2025年達到5.7GW裝置容量的目標基礎上，在2026至2035年間增加「離岸風電十年10GW（10億瓦）」目標。全球風能理事會 (GWEC)預估未來十年內，全球離岸風電市場規模將以每年增加15GW的速度提升，台灣將成為亞洲第二大的離岸風電市場。透過發展離岸風電市場，台灣不僅能發展地方經濟、創造綠色就業機會、挹注當地基礎設施的投資，更能進一步成為離岸風電產業的主要出口樞紐。
