ECCT launches Wind Energy committee

Taipei, 01 March 2017: The European Chamber of Commerce (ECCT) has announced the launch of its Wind Energy committee. An inaugural meeting to discuss objectives and future plans and elect committee chairpersons was held on 16 February.

The committee was established to cater to the considerable interest among ECCT members in wind energy given the business opportunities opening up in the wake of the Taiwan government's commitment to increasing the proportion of Taiwan's renewable energy to 20% of capacity by 2025. European companies are global leaders in the technology and development of wind energy projects. Besides leading European companies, the committee welcomes new members from Taiwan and other countries with an interest in all aspects of the wind energy value chain, including finance, to join the committee.

The committee will focus on advocating the required regulatory environment in Taiwan to expedite the development of both onshore and offshore wind energy. In this regard the committee plans to submit a paper to be included in the ECCT's 2018 Position Papers, to be published in November 2017. The committee will furthermore serve as a platform to exchange knowledge and best practices between international and local Taiwanese committee members, in order to build up a strong wind industry in Taiwan.

At the meeting, the founding members of the committee elected the following members to serve as chairpersons of the committee: Bart Linssen, Director, Enercon GmbH Taiwan; E. Joel Ciceron, CEO, EOLFI Greater China and Matthias Bausenwein, General Manager, Asia-Pacific, Dong Energy.
