ECCT meets with NDC to discuss 2019 Position Papers
The European Chamber of Commerce Taiwan (ECCT) held the first in a series of three grand meetings with the National Development Council (NDC) today to discuss issues raised in the chamber’s 2019 Position Papers, published in November 2018. The meeting began with opening remarks by NDC Minister Chen Mei-lin and ECCT Chairman Giuseppe Izzo.
At the meeting, representatives from eight of the ECCT’s industry and support committees discussed with representatives of specific government agencies the government’s official reply to the business issues raised in the papers. The ECCT committees represented were Tax, Beverage & Alcohol, Technology, Telecommunications, Media & Content, Energy Environment, Wind Energy, Intellectual Property Rights and Project & Procurement. Subsequent meetings have been scheduled for 10 April and 8 May to discuss issues raised by other ECCT committees, namely Agro-Chemical, Asset Management, Automotive, Banking, Better Living, Cosmetics, Education, Electrical Engineering & Equipment, Healthcare Enhancement, Human Resources, Insurance, Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, Retail & Distribution, Supply Chain Management and Travel & Tourism.
At today’s meeting, ECCT delegates asked for clarification from government representatives present on a number of points set out in the official reply with a view towards making further progress. Government officials present undertook to take action on a number of issues. On issues where progress was not made, government agencies agreed to re-evaluate some of their current positions and arrange follow-up meetings with the ECCT in the weeks ahead.
