In the era of the knowledge economy and globalisation, intellectual property, such as patents and trademarks play a key role in the protection of innovations and business operations. Today small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) form the backbone of the worldwide industrial landscape while universities and research institutions are leaders which drive the innovation. However, due to limited human resources and funding allocation constraints, a better understanding of intellectual property protection and management that is needed for business operations is lacking. It is therefore becoming a common international practice to emphasize the importance of the intellectual protection capacity building, especially in cases where the government takes an active role in supporting the development of science and industry.
This seminar will bring together experts from the public and private sectors to share policies and best practices regarding intellectual protection capacity building for SMEs, universities, and research Institutions in both the EU and Taiwan. The objective of the seminar is to share relevant information from the EU with Taiwan as a reference for the establishment and the improvement of the regulatory framework, in order to further enhance cooperation between Taiwan and the EU.
