The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by the United Nations in 2015 as guidelines for countries of the world to actively work to achieve by 2030, including ending poverty and hunger, achieving gender equality, ensuring clean water and sanitation, combating climate change, ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns and more, is a set of goals with 169 targets that cover economic growth, social progress and environmental protection.
Since then governments and multinational corporations have been working continuously to develop and implement plans in line with the SDGs. What are municipal governments in Taiwan and local branches of multinational corporations doing to achieve the SDGs? At this event, we will hear from a distinguished panel of three city mayors: Hou You-Yi, New Taipei City Mayor 新北市市長侯友宜; Cheng Wen-Tsan, Taoyuan City Mayor 桃園市長鄭文燦; Lu Shiow-Yen, Taichung City Mayor 台中市長盧秀燕 (video), senior government officials and corporate leaders how they are working to meet the 17 SDGs in their operations.
The full-day forum on 20 March at Taipei Regent Hotel is organized jointly by the CommonWealth Magazine 天下雜誌 and the ECCT's Low Carbon Initiative (LCI) 低碳倡議行動. The forum will feature four sessions on the following topics: Visions for cities of the future, Corporate responsibility for social development, Forging global partnerships to achieve SDGs and 100 ways to practice sustainability.
