The ECCT will hold a Premium Event lunch with the Taitung County Magistrate. At the event, Magistrate Yao will give a presentation in which she will talk about embracing foreign travellers, promoting the industries of Taitung and sharing the core values of Taitung's brand and progressive industries and services, among other topics.
Taitung’s rich marine life, natural coastal landscape, indigenous culture and slow lifestyle have made the area one of Taiwan’s most popular tourist destinations. With the ocean to the east and high mountains in the west, Taitung has a rich ecology and variety of high quality agricultural produce, including rice, tea, daylilies, sugar apples, smoked skipjack tuna and marlin.
Taitung is also the main gateway to Green Island and Orchid Island, known as “pearls of the world”.
Among other subjects in her presentation, the magistrate will talk about organic agriculture, sports tourism, a slow lifestyle and CSR.
About the speaker
Dr Yao Ching-ling has been the Magistrate (equivalent to mayor) of the Taitung County Government since December 2018. Her “six major policies with one vision” for Taitung include tourism as a driver of economic growth and development, agricultural abundance, economic stimulation, value-added culture, education reform, and social welfare. Her vision emphasises creating happiness for the citizens of Taitung and resolving central problems. She was previously Chairperson of the Taitung County Council, a standing member of the Kuomintang (KMT) party and Vice-chairperson of KMT’s Huangguodong Section. She holds an MA in Media Education from San Jose State University in the United States and a PhD in Political Science from National Taiwan Normal University.
