Goldman Sachs' chief US equity strategist David Kostin said that the US stock market will tank then surge to all-time highs in 2013. Goldman forecasts that the S&P 500 index will reach 1,575 by the end of 2013 based on its new 2014 EPS estimate of US$114 and a fair value PE ratio of 13.9x.
Besides the US stock market, investors are also waiting for policy signals after China's annual central economic work conference scheduled in December 2012, an annual meeting of China's senior leadership that will set economic policies for the next year. HSBC's Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for China indicated that the Chinese economy bounced back to expansionary territory for the first time in 13 months to reach 50.4 in November 2012. Therefore, it is the high time for investors to review their investment strategies for 2013 and be prepared to take advantage of a rise in the stock market. But which companies have better potential for growth? And how should investors evaluate the true value of listed companies?
During this special lunch, our speaker, Dr Chen Shi-min will share his tactics in evaluating the profitability and potential growth of a company through analysis of fundamental financial statements. In addition, Dr Chen will also share his views about how investors should manage their finance as well as the optimal financial strategy based on his 20 years of capital markets accounting research experience.
About the speaker
Dr Chen Shi-min is Professor of Accounting, Associate Dean and Academic Director of the MBA Programme at CEIBS. Previously, he held the position of Associate Head and Associate Professor of Accounting at the School of Accounting and Finance at Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Dr Chen has extensive experience in teaching and research. He has taught various levels of courses in universities and has been actively involved in executive education. Over the years, Dr Chen has received many teaching/research awards and grants. He has published numerous articles in leading academic journals internationally. In addition to teaching and research, Dr. Chen serves as an independent non-executive director in companies listed in China and Hong Kong. He holds a PhD from the University of Georgia, USA.
