What will tomorrow's mobility look like? How will cities change? Urban centres face continuous growth in both population density and vehicle traffic. Already today, more than half of the world's population is living in cities. Faced with congestion and pollution, municipalities are wondering: How do we keep the city moving? What about sustainability and how can we save space for more quality of life?

Over the past few years, mobility concepts like car sharing or bike sharing have shown remarkable growth rates in cities around the world. Our special guest speaker will give an introduction to the Car2go programme, which improved these concepts to an extent that made individual mobility even simpler and more convenient and that today attracts hundreds of thousands of customers. Car2go is a flexible car sharing model that makes it possible to rent Smart for two vehicles on the spur of the moment and later park them at any location within the area served by the system. Via an app, customers can locate and reserve a vehicle. 

Today, car2go has 700,000 members in 27 cities in Europe and North America. The mobility platform "moovel" bundles the offers of different mobility providers to come up with the best way to get from A to B. In doing so, the user-friendly app combines individual and public transport offers and compares different mobility options regarding various criteria like travel time and cost. With services like car2go, car2go black, Park2gether and moovel, Daimler's subsidiary moovel GmbH is offering several innovative solutions for the mobile society of the future. With a clear objective in mind: to radically simplify mobility, the guest speaker is going to share the vision and how it works.

About the speaker

Rainer Becker has been the Head of Business Development Asia-Pacific for moovel GmbH since 2013. Before joining moovel, he worked for several divisions within Daimler, including one year with Mitsubishi Motors in Japan. In 2009, he joined Daimler's mobility project, car2go to prepare the launch of its second pilot in Austin, Texas. Since 2010, he has been responsible for developing and optimizing car2go's operational processes and for rolling out and managing the European car2go operations as Chief Operating Officer.
