The current Health Promotion Administration (HPA) was officially launched on 23 July 2013. Prior to this, it was known as the Bureau of Health Promotion under the Department of Health (now the Ministry of Health and Welfare).
The HPA provides comprehensive health promotion services from the womb to tomb, for the health promotion from families to communities. Its goal is to prolong health expectancy and reduce health inequality, so that citizens can live longer and better regardless of wealth, region, gender or ethnicity. The HPA gives priority to enhance health literacy and promoting healthy lifestyles; spreading preventive healthcare services and promoting effective prevention and screening; upgrading the quality of healthcare and improving chronic disease control and prognosis; creating a friendly and supportive environment and bolstering healthy options and equality.
Our guest speaker will provide an overview of the HPA's policies and strategies in line with the goal to maintain an active lifestyle by encouraging seniors to attend not only their physical and mental health but also to social, economic and cultural affairs while seeking spiritual growth and to create a friendly environment capable of improving citizen's health such living conditions can control or decrease the risks and adverse effects of diseases, postponing the onset and compressing the length of disability, and boost the quality of life.
Dr Chiou Shu-Ti assumed her current position as Director-General of the HPA in 2013 when she was promoted from her previous position as Head of the Bureau of Health Promotion. She is concurrently the Global Vice President of the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE); Chair of the International Working Group on Health Promoting Hospitals and Age-Friendly Health Care; Coordinator of the Taiwan Network of Health Promoting Hospital and Health Services and an Adjunct Associate Professor at National Yang-Ming University. Prior to her current roles, she has served in several leading positions in various local departments of health, as a board-certificated family physician and a medical expert for over two decades. She holds a medical degree from National Yang-Ming University, a Master of Science in Preventive Medicine and a PhD in Epidemiology from National Taiwan University.
