Taiwan’s national healthcare system has received wide praise internationally for its comprehensiveness and efficiency. The public is generally satisfied with NHI system, however, healthcare providers are less satisfied because of the level of fee premiums and restrictions on the services covered by the system. Therefore, concerns about the future quality and sustainability of the national healthcare system have been heard, given rising costs and the rapid pace of aging population. The central concern is how to find the right balance between quality and affordability, and maintain this balance in face of expected strains in order to achieve long-term sustainability of the healthcare system.

The guest of honor, Professor Lee Yue-Chune, will share her valuable insights on Taiwan NHI Payment System Reform. The industry will have excellent opportunity to have an in-depth discussion with Professor Lee and find industry's role in this important topic.   

About the Speaker
Yue-Chune Lee is the professor at Institute of Health and Welfare Policy, National Yang-Ming University, Taiwan (陽明大學衛生福利研究所). She received Doctor of Public Health degree from School of Public Health, Health Science Center at Houston, University of Texas. She has been Founder and Director of IHWP, Director of Research Center of Health and Welfare Policy, Director of Research Center of Value-Added Health Data of NYMU and President of Taiwan Public Health Association (臺灣公共衛生學會).

As a professor, she has profoundly participated in Taiwan’s public health policy-making and administration. She has been Deputy Minister of Ministry of Health and Welfare (衛福部), supervising Long-Term Care Insurance (LTCI) Planning, National Health Insurance Administration, National Pension System, long-term care delivery and social welfare policy. She has also been the chief advisor of LTCI Task Force of Ministry of Health (MOH, now MHW) for 7 years. For many years, she has also participated in the NHI planning, implementation and evaluation. She has served as Director of Payment system of NHI Task Force of MOH for 12 years. Besides, she has been chairperson of National Global Budget Negotiation Committee, Convener of Resource Allocation and Priority Setting Division, Second Generation NHI Task Force of MOH and has also been Advisor of MOH and Bureau of NHI (the single payer).

She has received Premier Professional Medal from MHW and Health Promotion Medal from Health Promotion Administration of MHW to appreciate her long-term contribution to NHI, LTC Iand health Promotion policies.
