Our guest speaker will share HPA's policies and strategies to enhance the overall health of Taiwan's citizens. Nowadays modern lifestyles, food choices and pollution are all affecting and changing the health of citizens. Unless these issues are addressed, higher spending on healthcare down the line is inevitable. Our speaker will elaborate on the HPA's goals and strategies to encourage citizens to maintain an active lifestyle and ultimately create a healthier society. Among other topics, he will cover social, economic and cultural factors, controlling or decreasing the risks and adverse effects of diseases, postponing the onset and compressing the length of disability and boosting the quality of life.
The current Health Promotion Administration (HPA) was known as the Bureau of Health Promotion under the Department of Health (now the Ministry of Health and Welfare). The HPA was officially launched in 2013.
The HPA provides comprehensive health promotion services "from the womb to the tomb", promoting the health of individuals, families and communities. Its goal is to prolong health expectancy and reduce health inequality, so that citizens can live longer and healthier lives. The scope of the HPA's remit includes promoting healthy lifestyles, enhancing preventive healthcare services, promoting effective prevention and screening and improving chronic disease prognosis and control.
This event is open to all members and the public, and is special interest to members in the Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, Cosmetics and Healthcare Enhancement committees.
The event will be conducted in English.
About the speaker
Dr Wang Ying-Wei is the Director-General of the HPA and concurrently an associate professor in the School of Medicine at Tzu Chi University, Taiwan. He began his career as a physician, first at Taipei Hospital and later at the Buddhist Tzu Chi General Hospital before taking up his first position in government as the Deputy Director-General of the Bureau of Health Promotion under the former Department of Health. He went on to take on several positions in government and academia, including Deputy Director of the Department of Medicine at Tzu Chi University. His major fields of research and expertise are family medicine, palliative care, community health, health promotion and medical education. He holds a medical degree from National Taiwan University and a PhD from the School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine at Tulane University in the United States of America.
