ECCT INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS WORKSHOP SERIES
Part 1: IP for managers
An overview of intellectual property issues and concepts for the busy executive Workshop
Speaker
John Eastwood, Partner, Eiger Law
For many managers, intellectual property is an afterthought that only comes up once the heat of excitement of a deal is over. Even mature international companies have been caught flat-footed by their failure to register basic trademarks in major markets, giving imitators and counterfeiters a way in. It is important to have some guiding philosophy to ensure that your company has the proper rights registered. In this, the first in a five-part IPR workshop series, our speaker will give an overview of:
A. What's at stake? -- a quick explanation of patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets and domain names
B. What can we do? -- a look at the civil, criminal and administrative means of protecting your IP rights
C. What do we protect? -- a quick explanation of some guiding philosophy for IP protection
D. What should we keep? -- a review of the records and information that rights holders should keep and maintain to protect their rights
E. The cross-Strait situation -- a look at how Taiwan's economic integration with the PRC affects IP protection.
The IPR workshop series is designed to give managers and executives a comprehensive introduction to intellectual property rights matters. The format of the sessions will include a presentation but will encourage interactive discussion on IP issues among participants.
Other topics to be covered in future IPR Workshop Series:
Part II: Trademark Law for Managers-- What You Need to Know about Protecting Your Brand
Part III: Copyright Law for Managers -- How to Protect Your Works, How to Stay Out of Trouble
Part IV: Patent and Trade Secrets Laws for Managers -- Protecting Your Technologies
Part V: IP and HR -- Intellectual Property and Your Employees
