The regulatory system for the safety and quality of food, drugs, medical devices, and cosmetics is critical to enhancing public health and industry development. There are a number of ongoing regulatory system reforms under the authority of the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (FDA) concerning ECCT members in multiple industry sectors. At this event, our guest speaker will give an overview of how the FDA will proceed to formulate and implement policies in the year ahead and further improve administrative efficiency for the benefit of Taiwan residents as well as stimulating foreign investment and trade.

In addition to Director-General Wu, directors from different divisions of the FDA will be present and seated among members at the lunch. This will provide an excellent opportunity for members to engage with senior FDA officials, exchange ideas and explore ways to increase cooperation between the ECCT and the FDA.

Among other subjects in her presentation, Dr Wu will address the following:

• The latest developments and plans for food safety management
• Integrated sustainability policies for the retail sector
• The Medical Device Act and complementary measures
• Claims support and advertising guidelines for cosmetics
• Product labelling issues for retail and cosmetics
• The notification process for cosmetics
• Registration fee increases for pharmaceuticals

This event is open to all ECCT members and should be of special interest to members in Retail & Distribution, Pharmaceutical, Medical Devices, and Cosmetics committees.

About the speaker

Dr Wu Shou-mei 吳秀梅 is the Director-General of the Food & Drug Administration (TFDA) under the Ministry of Health & Welfare (MOHW). She has had a distinguished academic career with posts both in Taiwan and overseas. At Kaohsiung Medical University she was previously Professor of the School of Pharmacy, Director of the Department of Fragrance and Cosmetic Science and Dean of the College of Pharmacy. She has also been a visiting fellow at the School of Chemistry at the University of Virginia in the United States and the School of Pharmacy at Tokushima University in Japan. She holds a PhD in pharmaceutical analysis from Kaohsiung Medical University.
