On 27 Sept., the ECCT's Low Carbon Initiative (LCI), Taichung City Gov., European Union Centre in Taiwan (EUTW), and National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) will organize the "2022 Europe-Taiwan Forum on Environment and Science: Renewable Energy & Sustainable Transportation," taking place at the Taichung City Hall.  

Following recent tragic climatic events that have hit both Europe and Asia, the importance of combating climate change has never been so clear. The adoption of renewable energy and sustainable transportation are some of the major ways to avert climate disaster, and only with the cooperation of the international community can this become a reality.

This forum, which will be opened by Taichung Deputy Mayor Bruce Linghu (台中市副市長令狐榮達), will serve as a platform for structural dialogue to exchange technical knowledge, experience and best practices in science and the environment in order to enhance cooperation and coordination between government and the relevant public and private stakeholders. The forum will be divided into two sessions moderated respectively by the ECCT LCI Chair Giuseppe Izzo, Taichung Deputy Mayor Bruce Linghu (台中市副市長令狐榮達), and Taichung Transportation Director-General Yeh Chao-Fu (台中市交通局局長 葉昭甫). The first morning session will discuss renewable energy, including wind power, hydrogen, and biomass power system integrated with portable micro grids for rural areas and will be conducted in English.

The second session spotlighting global sustainability and green transportation, will begin with a keynote (streamed live) by Dr Jeffrey Sachs, Director for the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, who is also Director of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and a commissioner of the UN Broadband Commission for Development, and the 2022 Tang Prize Laureate in Sustainable Development. Dr Sachs was twice named as Time magazine’s 100 most influential world leaders, and was ranked by The Economist among the top three most influential living economists.The rest of the session will present (in Chinese) innovative energy saving technologies for urban mass transit, electric vehicles, traffic systems, and waste tyre recycling.
