Achieving net zero by 2050 is a significant policy goal for Taiwan. The Ministry of Agriculture is leading 12 key strategies, with a focus on promoting "natural carbon sinks." This involves implementing carbon-negative agricultural practices and maintaining natural habitats such as forests and oceans to enhance carbon sequestration capabilities. This effort aims to offset anthropogenic carbon emissions and mitigate climate change. The MOA's Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency is responsible for planning and executing strategies to increase carbon sequestration through forest ecosystems.
At this event, guest speakers will provide an overview of Taiwan's environmental and ecological conditions and the ecological challenges it faces, including environmental pollution, habitat fragmentation, and the impact of climate change. They will also outline Taiwan’s policies on the conservation of biodiversity and promoting the sustainable and equitable use of genetic resources and emphasize the need for businesses to consider ecologically sensitive areas and their dependencies on and impacts on natural resources. The Director-General will share insights on the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency's National Ecological Green Network Plan and Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) policy planning to help businesses understand and disclose relevant information assessments. Finally, they will introduce the National Ecological Green Network Map and ESG Project Matching Platform and explain how enterprises and organisations can participate in forest management or natural habitat conservation through public-private partnerships.
