To help the ECCT member companies understand and comply with Taiwan's new schemes on carbon credit trading and carbon fee, the ECCT's Low Carbon Initiative (LCI) organizes a lunch theming "Taiwan’s Carbon Fee and Carbon Trade Exchange Policies" on Tuesday 15 August at Grand Hyatt Taipei. Three distinguished speakers: Dr. Lin Tze-luen, Spokesperson and Executive Director, Office of Energy and Carbon Reduction, Executive Yuan 行政院發言人暨行政院能源及減碳辦公室執行長 林子倫博士, Tien Chien-chung, General Manager of Taiwan Carbon Solution Exchange (TCSE) 臺灣碳權交易所田建中總經理, and Aleksandra KOZLOWSKA, Head of Trade Team, European Economic and Trade Office (EETO) 歐洲經貿辦事處經貿組組長楊藹羚 are invited to keynote respectively on "Taiwan's Carbon Fee Collection Scheme Policy Update," "Unveiling Taiwan Carbon Trade Exchange Roadmap," and "CBAM: A new, green way of pricing carbon in imports to the EU."
The Office of Energy and Carbon Reduction (of Executive Yuan) talk will highlight and update Taiwan's Carbon Fee Collection Scheme Policy. Starting from the second half of 2024, Taiwan will begin collecting carbon fees from over 500 local manufacturers in accordance with the Climate Change Response Act, which came into effect on 15 February of this year. This update will shed light on the policy details and implications for businesses in the region. The TCSE presentation will outline the strategic direction and future plans for establishing a carbon exchange in Taiwan. The creation of this exchange is vital for the country to fulfill its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Furthermore, it will support Taiwan's export sectors, including semiconductors, heavy machinery, iron and steel, petrochemicals, and bicycles, in maintaining their market share in regions such as the US and Europe, where stringent environmental regulations and low-emission standards have become mandatory.
