The 1970s was an eventful decade. The war in Vietnam ended even as the cold war between the west and the Soviet Union persisted. Intel produced the first microprocessor. Microsoft was founded in 1975 and Apple Computer in 1976.  The movie "Jaws" was released in 1975 and considered to be one of the first block-buster films. The 1970s brought jumbo jets and the first Concorde, video cassettes, FM radio, car stereos, 8-track cartridges, Sony's Walkman and rock music's finest decade.

After the Beatles disbanded in 1970, hard rock, soft rock, prog rock, heavy metal, then Glam Rock and country rock filled the gap. Later, punk pushed back against everything, before New Wave's synthesisers took over. Led Zeppelin climbed the Stairway to Heaven, Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water introduced that most iconic guitar riff, Pink Floyd explored the Dark Side of the Moon. David Bowie's alter ego Ziggy Stardust appeared and Marc Bolan and T.Rex's Electric Warrior set the template for glam rock – all glitter, outrageous make-up and platform heels.

Across the water, Kraftwerk and Focus electronicised everything and Sweden produced ABBA, soft rock's best ever. In America, The Doors serenaded their LA Woman, Tres Hombres from Texas, ZZ Top grew their beards, The Eagles moved into Hotel California and Jersey boy Bruce Springsteen hit the road, ‘cos he was Born to Run. We rocked to The Who, Genesis, Eric Clapton, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, Elton John, Black Sabbath, Queen, Kiss, The Police, AC/DC and the ageless Rolling Stones. Then came The Ramones and punk counter-culture - the Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Damned, The Jam and more.

Meanwhile, several female rockers shot to stardom - Chrissie Hynde, Debbie Harry, Suzi Quatro, Patti Smith, Kate Bush, Joan Jett, Siouxsie Sioux and Stevie Nicks.

Whatever your perceptions of the 1970s, come dressed as your favourite 1970's icon and join fellow ECCT members, partners and friends for a night of 70's dancing and nostalgia!

Some exciting activities are being planned. As in previous years, this year's ball will include popular and exciting features including: gaming for chocolate euros and the photo booth to make everyone a celebrity for the night.

With an exceptional line-up of entertainment, music, wining and dining, it promises to be an exciting evening.

This event will be run in compliance with all central and local government epidemic prevention regulations applicable at the time of the event. In addition, to attend the event, guests are requested to self-certify that they have been fully vaccinated with 3 shots of a Covid-19 vaccine or tested negative for Covid-19 within 48 hours prior to the event.
