As part of the ECCT's ongoing programme as a nationwide association to actively engage in cooperation with municipal governments all across Taiwan, members are invited to participate in a trip to Kinmen Island. The outing will begin with a lunch meeting with Kinmen Mayor Chen Fu-hai and a tour of the island, which will include a visit to the famous Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor Inc (金門酒廠)and Jhaishan Tunnel (翟山坑道), which was used by the Republic of China Armed Forces during wartime and for military exercises.

This event offers an exceptional experience and exclusive opportunity for ECCT members to explore business opportunities in Kinmen. During the lunch, Mayor Chen will outline his vision for the future development of Kinmen. Among other subjects he will talk about business opportunities in the travel and tourism, medical tourism, green energy, electric vehicles, beverage, retail and luxury goods sectors.

Kinmen has an interesting history as a front-line battle ground between opposing forces in the Chinese civil war, which has since developed into a popular tourist location and a trading point between Taiwan and mainland China given its close proximity to the mainland. Direct travel between mainland China and Kinmen re-opened in January 2001 under the mini Three Links(小三通), and there has been extensive development of tourism and trade on the island since then. Many Taiwanese businesspeople use the link through Kinmen to enter the Chinese mainland, especially via Xiamen(廈門). Since 1 January 2015, tourists from Mainland China could directly apply for Exit and Entry Permit upon arrival in Kinmen, further boosting the flow of people and goods. Kinmen is famous for the production of Kaoliang liquor, seafood and for producing knives made from the remaining of shells fired by the People's Liberation Army between 1958 and 1978.

Chen Fu-hai is the first independent candidate to win election as Magistrate (equivalent to mayor) of Kinmen County in November 2014. Prior to this he held several elected positions representing Kinmen. From 1990-1994 he was a representative of Jinhu Township. From 1994-1998 he served as a member of the Kinmen County Council, from 1998-2006 as mayor of Jinhu Township and from 2008-2012 as a legislator representing Kinmen. He holds a master's degree in public administration from the National University of Kaohsiung and is a doctoral candidate at Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

 *Please note that the trip starts and ends at the Everrich Golden Lake Hotel. The cost does not include flights and transport to and from Kinmen and to the hotel. Participants are requested to make their own travel arrangements. Special flight and hotel packages are available for those who wish to stay the weekend.
