The Covid-19 pandemic has placed an unprecedented burden on national healthcare systems globally. Dealing effectively with pandemic, particularly securing and rolling out vaccinations, is the most urgent challenge facing authorities everywhere. In the long-term, countries like Taiwan are facing a demographic time bomb. Taiwan has one of the world’s lowest birthrates and fastest ageing populations. The birth rate is expected to decline by 10% this year and 20% of the population is expected to be over 65 by 2035. This will place an ever-increasing burden on the healthcare system.

Finding solutions to address the immediate and future challenges of the post-Covid-19 era will require future-oriented strategies. For the very first time, the ECCT has initiated this forum to gather leading European and Taiwanese healthcare experts from government, industry, and academia to examine the leading healthcare issues of the era. Through a series of presentations and panel discussions, the forum will explore ideas, share best practices, and offer insights on ways the private healthcare industry can work together with public healthcare institutions to add value and ensure the long-term quality and sustainability of Taiwan’s healthcare system. This forum will highlight examples of where public and private partners can work together to solve the most pressing issues.

Among other topics, the forum will cover the following:

·         Ideas for quality, sustainable and cost-effective healthcare

·         The future vaccination ecosystem and policies

·         How to tackle Taiwan’s ageing population and low birth rate.  

·         Using AI and other technologies to reduce the disease burden and improve health outcomes.

*Owing to the pandemic speakers not based in Taiwan will deliver pre-recorded presentations.
