The ECCT will hold its annual Premium Event lunch with Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je, marking the 24th year since the ECCT held its first round table lunch with the Taipei City Government (TCG). As in previous years, this year’s event will provide an exclusive opportunity for ECCT members to discuss issues of concern or mutual interest with the mayor and a full delegation of senior TCG cabinet officials, who will be in attendance.

At the lunch, Mayor Ko will give a short address to guests, after which Ambassador Tom TC Chou will give a presentation about investment and start-up business opportunities in the city. This will be followed with a Q&A session with Mayor Ko, moderated by Tim Berge, Co-chair of the ECCT’s Better Living committee. Members will also be able to raise questions or discuss issues of concern with city government officials. Among other subjects, members will be able to raise and discuss the following subjects:

• Business opportunities for start-ups
• The TCG’s ongoing Covid-19 prevention and business support plans
• Progress and ongoing plans to provide equality of treatment to foreign residents
• Efforts to improve the English language environment in Taipei
• Major public transport and infrastructure plans, housing, urban renewal projects and tourism
• Plans to improve traffic safety and communications infrastructure (such as public Wi-Fi)
• Plans for intelligent infrastructure including green buildings, electric vehicles and smart grids.

About the speaker
Dr Ko Wen-je has been mayor of the TCG since 2014 and was re-elected to a second term in 2018. He is also the Chairman of the Taiwan People’s Party, which won five legislative seats in the January 2020 elections. Prior to his current position, Ko was an attending physician and Chairman of the Department of Traumatology at National Taiwan University Hospital. He was also a professor at National Taiwan University College of Medicine specialising in trauma, intensive care and organ transplants. He received both his medical degree and medical doctorate from National Taiwan University.
