Taiwan has received high praise globally for its handling of the coronavirus pandemic and the relatively limited impact it has had on the overall economy. Nevertheless, certain sectors of the economy, particularly tourism and hospitality, have been hit hard. As the ministry in charge of tourism in Taiwan, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) is at the forefront of efforts to support the travel and tourism sector as well as continue its ongoing efforts to upgrade Taiwan’s transportation and communications networks in line with its “Building for the Future” strategic investment objective.
Far from depressing the market, the response to the pandemic looks set to accelerate the uptake of electric vehicles across Europe. How governments respond to the pandemic will influence the pace of the transition to electric vehicles.
At this event, our guest speaker will talk about how the MOTC is supporting the recovery of the tourism sector and ongoing development through smart mobility projects and initiatives to give Taiwan a head start in the post Covid-19 era and the global trends towards digitalization and vehicle electrification.
Minister Lin will give a short presentation, after which he will engage in an in-depth panel discussion with co-chairs of the Mobility and Travel & Tourism committees. Among other subjects that will be discussed will include the following:
- Sustaining and upgrading the tourism industry amid and post COVID-19
- The MOTC’s ongoing development of smart, low emission and energy-efficient transport infrastructure, including its “Intelligent transportation system development plan”
- The government’s plan for vehicle electrification charging infrastructure & E-bus pilot project
