To achieve the 2050 net zero carbon emissions target, businesses have all prioritised carbon reduction as a significant task. The Taiwan government has a basic roadmap in place but many details on the implementation are pending, including the setting of carbon fees. Minister Shieu has made it clear since taking office that the Ministry of Environment (MOENV) will actively gather input from various industries and promptly announce relevant subsidiary regulations to provide guidance for businesses. At this event, apart from discussing carbon fees, Minister Shieu will give an introduction to the MOENV following its upgrade from the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) on 22 August, including the new structure, division heads and priorities for the year ahead.
In addition, he will share his views on plans for the “Climate Change Act” and timelines of relevant laws and regulations in 2023 and 2024.
