Lunch with Mayor Wen-je Ko

In 2015 the ECCT will continue its tradition of holding annual round table luncheons with the Taipei City Government (TCG), as it has done with every Taipei City government since 1998. The ECCT's excellent relations with the Taipei City Government built up over the past 17 years have helped to raise and eventually resolve a number of business as well as quality of living issues. In particular, the ECCT's Better Living committee has been instrumental in recommending actions that have led to improvements in issues ranging from traffic safety and the environment to equality of treatment for foreign residents. This first round table meeting with TCG Mayor Ko offers an exclusive opportunity for ECCT members to meet the mayor, deputy mayor and senior city cabinet officials in person to discuss issues of concern.

The event will be open only to ECCT members. Mayor Ko will give a short briefing to guests on his vision and plans for the forthcoming year and beyond, after which a round-table lunch will be held where members can raise questions or discuss issues of concern. A full delegation of officials will be present and seated among members at the event.

Among other subjects, members will be able to raise and discuss the following subjects:

‧ Quality of living issues (air, noise and environmental pollution), traffic safety, emergency response facilities and fire and flood prevention plans.

‧ Preserving the city's cultural heritage.

‧ Plans to improve traffic safety and communications infrastructure (such as public Wi-Fi).

‧ Major infrastructure and urban renewal projects and tourism.

‧ Plans for intelligent infrastructure including green buildings, electric vehicles and smart grid technology.

‧ An update on public transport infrastructure including roads and mass rapid transit (MRT) lines.

Dr Wen-je Ko was elected mayor of Taipei City in 2014. Prior to this he was an attending physician and Chairman of the Department of Traumatology at National Taiwan University Hospital. He was also a professor at National Taiwan University College of Medicine specialising in trauma, intensive care, organ transplant and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). He received both his medical degree and medical doctorate from National Taiwan University.
