On 28 August Terry Gou announced his intention to join the race to run for president of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in 2024 as an independent candidate. He will be in contention for the office of president against at least three other candidates from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Taiwan People’s Party (TPP). Should he be elected president, Gou has pledged to stabilise relations with mainland China, double the rate of economic growth and put Taiwan on course to have the highest GDP per capita in Asia within two decades.

At this event, our guest speaker will elaborate on how he plans to put his campaign pledges into action. Following his speech, he will answer questions from members.

About the speaker
Terry Gou is the founder and former chairman and chief executive officer of Foxconn (known as Hon Hai Precision Industry in Taiwan), the world's largest contract manufacturer of electronics, whose top customers include Apple. Founded in 1974, Foxconn grew to become an international business empire, becoming the largest private employer and exporter in mainland China with a workforce of 1.2 million. As of 2022, Gou had a net worth of US$6.8 billion.
