Health services are under increasing pressure from growing demand and escalating costs. Effectively harnessing digital disruption will be one of the keys to easing the strain and delivering more adaptable and efficient healthcare. What role can Taiwan play to make the best use the digital technologies, devices and applications, and the data produced to make the most meaningful impact? To what extent can innovation promote wellness and relieve the burden on services? While Korean ICT giant Samsung has expanded into biopharmaceutical and healthcare in recent years, can Taiwanese players enhance their competitiveness by broadening collaborations with Europe and other stakeholders?  

Among other subjects, our speakers will explore the following topics:

• Innovative development of biomedical technology in Taiwan, including NHI data applications, digital health and smart drugs

About the guest of honour
Dr Chairman Simon Chang (San-cheng) is the chairman of Institute for Biotechnology and Medicine Industry (IBMI). He is also the chairman of the beingNet Alliance and Dean Emeritus and Tang Song-Chang Chair Professor at the School of Big Data Management. He was formerly ROC Premier (in 2016) and Vice Premier (from 2014-2016). He has also previously served as the Minister of Science and Technology (2014), Minister without Portfolio in the Executive Yuan (2012-2014) and Chairman of Taiwan Mobile Foundation (2016-2019). He received his PhD in civil and environmental engineering from Cornell University and a master’s in civil and environmental engineering from Stanford University in the USA.

About the speaker
Dr Chien Chung-liang currently serves as the CEO of the IBMI, which works to promote collaboration between academia and the bio-industry in Taiwan. IBMI just launched the international platform “Taiwan Healthcare+”, a website portal for medical and biotech opportunities in Taiwan. Dr Chien has held many positions in academia and government. He previously served as the Deputy Executive Secretary at the Office of Science and Technology (from 2012-2014) as well as the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology (from 2014-2016).
