Donald Trump is set to take office as the president of the United States on 20 January 2017. As the most unconventional candidate elected to that office in living memory, the world is waiting to see if the action he will take once in office will match the rhetoric of his election campaign.
During his election campaign, Trump vowed to build a wall on the Mexican border, repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, a signature programme of his predecessor, Barack Obama, and pull the US out of the Paris climate agreement. Of perhaps greater concern to America's trading partners is Trump's promise to withdraw from the fledgling Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement and tear up the existing North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
Since winning the election Trump has selected anti-establishment firebrands to cabinet and advisory positions. However, he has also appointed some establishment figures and shown a willingness to modify or at least soften some of the positions taken during the campaign. However, it remains to be seen what the president elect will do once he is actually in office. This special lunch will take place just over one month after President Trump's inauguration. Our guest speaker will offer his insights on what the first 30 days in office imply for the world and Taiwan.

About the speaker
Ross Feingold is a senior adviser at DC International Advisory, a consultancy that advises clients on political risk in markets throughout the world. Feingold serves on the board of directors of the Association of Americans Resident Overseas, a global non-partisan expatriates' advocacy organization, where he represents the Asia region. He advises AARO on advocacy efforts in front of the US Congress and government agencies such as the IRS and State Department and has participated in leadership delegations to Washington DC. He also lectures at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs training academy, the Institute of Diplomacy & International Affairs, about international politics. Feingold frequently provides analysis about international affairs in media including Al-Jazeera, the BBC, Bloomberg, CCTV, Channel News Asia, CNBC, ICRT, Phoenix, Radio Free Asia, RTHK, TVB, and Voice of America. He also frequently speaks at universities and business organizations. Ross Feingold speaks Mandarin and has lived in Asia for 20 years.
