TaiwanPlus is Taiwan’s first independent English-language video news and entertainment platform for an international audience. Set up in the second half of 2021, TaiwanPlus employs a multinational team, offering multimedia coverage of regional issues and world affairs and sharing Taiwan’s unique voice in a way that resonates globally. TaiwanPlus programmes also dive into the nation’s music, film, language, nature, business and more to engage in a meaningful exploration of Taiwan. Headquartered in Asia’s most progressive and transparent media environment, TaiwanPlus is committed to truth, neutrality, and diversity in its storytelling and seeks to play an essential role in informing Taiwan’s foreign community while providing a window to Taiwan for the rest of the world. At this event, our guest speakers will introduce the vision, goals and work of TaiwanPlus.

About the speakers
Joanne Tsai (蔡秋安) is the CEO of TaiwanPlus. She is an industry veteran with over 25 years of experience in international media management. For 15 years, Tsai served as the Executive Vice President and Managing Director for Fox Networks Group (FNG) in Taiwan and China. During this time, she oversaw the operations of FOX, NGC and Star brands, airing everything from locally produced programmes, Hollywood movies, and international drama series to sports, music, and children’s programming. She also led the team as it launched Taiwan’s first HD channel, the National Geographic Channel, and incorporated the first OTT streaming service, Fox+, into FNG’s operations strategy. Under her leadership, FNG went on to become the largest content provider in Taiwan. Tsai holds an MA in advertising from Michigan State University in the United States.

Andrew Ryan is the Deputy Director of the News Center for TaiwanPlus. His career in news and reporting in Taiwan started in 1999, when he began hosting and producing programmes for Radio Taiwan International (RTI). Since then, he has won four Golden Bell Awards as a radio and television host and producer, including for Taiwan Public Television Service’s Chinese-language TV travel show, From HEAR to There (勝利催落去). Before joining TaiwanPlus, he was co-producer and co-host of the video news programme Taiwan Insider (台灣通) on RTI. He is a former Fulbright Scholar and was a lecturer at Minchuan University in Taipei from 2007-2013.

Sara Lin (Yi-Ying, 林宜瑩) is the Deputy Director of Public Relations for TaiwanPlus. She is an experienced leader in political communications, policy research, and public relations. Before joining TaiwanPlus, she served as Deputy Director of International Affairs in Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party, Trade Policy Aide to the Minister of Economic Affairs and Foreign Relations Legislative Staffer for Legislator Hsiao Bi-khim. She also has public relations experience in both the hospitality and tech sectors. She holds a BA in International Relations from Brown University in the United States.
