Balancing healthcare policy and business development in Taiwan
The regulatory system for the safety and quality of food, drugs, medical devices and cosmetics is critical to enhancing public health. Taiwan has made progress in recent years towards improving the management and efficiency of its healthcare system. Large-scale restructuring included the creation of the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration in in 2010 and the upgrading of the Department of Health (DoH) to the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MoHW) in 2013. Yet, no system is perfect and therefore continuous efforts are needed to improve the regulatory system and administrative efficiency to ensure the best possible system for Taiwan residents, while at the same time stimulating foreign investment and trade.

At this special event, our guest speaker will share his views on recent and ongoing organizational reform of the Bureau of Food Safety, the Bureau of Pharmaceutical Affairs, the Bureau of Food and Drug Analysis and the Bureau of Controlled Drugs into the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) as well as organizational reform following the upgrading of the DoH to the MoHW.

Among other issues to be raised at this event will include the following:

  • Progress made towards harmonizing Taiwan's healthcare regulatory policy with international standards.
  • How to strike the perfect balance between policy efficiency and quality.
  • The prospects and progress so far towards streamlining and simplifying complicated drug and medical device regulatory and review processes in order to boost trade and promote a business-friendly environment in Taiwan.
  • The debate over pre-market approval versus post-market surveillance.
This event is open to all ECCT members and should be of special interest to members in the Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, Cosmetics, Healthcare Enhancement and Retail & Distribution committees.
