Members are invited to join an exclusive tour of Taiwan's leading space technology institution, the National Space Organization (NSPO). The event will feature a meeting with Dr GS Chang, Director General of the NSPO, tours of the NSPO's Multi-satellite Operation Control Center and Satellite Integration & Testing Facility, a presentation over lunch with guest speaker Lin Chen-tsung on the subject of GNSS activities in Taiwan and a networking session with innovative industrial players.

This event, arranged by the Technology committee, complements the efforts of the GNSS Asia programme to foster EU-Taiwan partnerships to develop satellite and related technology. This is an ideal opportunity to learn about the latest technology developments in Europe and Taiwan and potential collaboration opportunities between leading European and Taiwanese institutions and companies.

Space on this tour is limited. Kindly register before 15 October 2015 to avoid disappointment.

Please note that the registration cost does not include transport to and from Hsinchu. Participants are kindly requested to arrange their own transport to and from Hsinchu. The tour will start at the NSPO and end at the Hsinchu High Speed Railway station.

The National Space Organization [NSPO] was established in 1991 and is the sole institute that takes charge of the execution of the national space programme and the development of space technology in Taiwan. NSPO is actively working to become a centre of space technology innovation and excellence through the development of satellite programmes. In the near term, NSPO's goal is to build self-reliance in space technology through the execution of FORMOSAT-5 and FORMOSAT-7 programmes, which focus on remote sensing and meteorology. NSPO has recently developed the first space-grade GPS receiver in Taiwan. Such technology could be used, for example, in autonomous navigation for satellites but also for other applications such as drones and cars. The "space to ground" aspect (applying space technology to businesses on the ground) is important in Taiwan.

Lin Chen-tsung holds a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan Science and Technology University in Taipei and a master's degree in Control Engineering from National Chiao-Tung University in Hsinchu. Prior to joining NSPO, he worked for Acer in Taiwan for six years. He has been with NSPO for 20 years where he is now the director of the Flight Control Division and project manager of the FORMOSAT-7 NSPO-built spacecraft project. He is also leading a team to develop space-grade MEMS Inertial Reference Unit , space-grade GPS receivers and GNSS-reflectometry instruments. His research interests include the development of spacecraft attitude control systems and components.
