5G and Living in the Network Society

There are over 700,000 new Internet users added every day. The vast majority of these users join the Internet via a mobile smartphone connection. Lifestyles are changing as people are always connected and in touch with friends through different kinds of social media. But still, this fundamental change in society is only the beginning of a larger change that is embracing the world.

In this talk, our speaker will give predictions on mobile connections and usage spanning five years into the future. By 2020, another six billion connected devices will be added. Many of the new connections will be in the area of the Internet of Things, such as ensuring that machines and vehicles are connected. These connections will add further value to society, by providing opportunities for the transport industry, public safety and individual lives. A number of examples will be given where Ericsson is already conducting research together with other industry partners.

The speaker will also describe how the next generation mobile system, 5G, will enable new opportunities. With the ambition to be commercially ready by 2020, 5G will bring mobile Internet to yet another higher dimension.

About the speaker
Mats H Olsson is the Group Senior Vice President and Head of Ericsson's Asia Pacific region. With over 30 years of experience working for Ericsson, most of it based in Asia, he is not only a veteran telecommunications expert but also an authority on doing business in Asia. During his many years leading the Ericsson organisation in China, he was appointed and currently remains, an International Economic Advisor to a number of Chinese Provincial and Municipal governments. He was also President of Ericsson Taiwan from 1992-1996.
