According to the World Health Organisation's Global status report on road safety 2015, road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death globally among people aged between 15 and 29, claiming 1.2 million lives and injuring more than 20 million others every year. The report highlights the need to strengthen road safety legislation and enforcement, vehicle safety standards and upgrade the safety of road systems to protect vehicle users, cyclists and pedestrians. In addition, it has been estimated that human error is responsible for 90% of traffic accidents. Reducing human error through advanced vehicle safety technologies promises to make travelling on roads safer while combining the use of big data on traffic, vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to infrastructure connectivity, travel on roads could be made much more efficient, thereby saving time and energy. This forum will bring together technical experts and government officials from Taiwan and Europe to share state-of-the-art vehicle technologies and best regulatory practices aimed at improving vehicle and traffic safety in Taiwan.
