“Green energy” has become the strong driving force for Taiwan's economic growth since 2016 when Taiwan government set “green energy” technology as one of the “5+2 Industrial Innovation Plans,” and committed to achieving the goal of 20% renewable energy power generation by 2025 to ensure the national energy security, environmental sustainability, and a nuclear-free home-land for Taiwan.
By 2035, Taiwan will become the largest offshore wind market in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region after China, according to GlobalData. With over 15.7GW of offshore wind capacity announced in Nov. 2019, Taiwan is to add an additional 10GW of capacity between 2026 and 2035, thereby doubling the country's current target. Taiwan serves to benefit greatly from a booming offshore market to stimulate the local economy, creating supply chain, green jobs, investment in local infrastructure, and becoming an export hub for the growing offshore industry.
In addition to wind energy development, Taiwan is entering into a new energy era to explore more opportunities for energy storage and alternative fuels such as hydrogen production from renewable resources. According to the Global Battery Energy Storage System Market Report, the battery energy storage system industry in APAC is expected to grow at the highest CAGR from 2020 to 2025. The governments of various countries in this region focus on minimizing the adverse effects of the energy sector on the environment. These factors lead to the growth in the deployment of battery energy storage systems in residential and public utility applications.
On 17 Dec. Bureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), with the support from TAITRA and the ECCT's Low Carbon Initiative (LCI), is organizing the Global Renewable Energy Trends Forum 2020 at Hua Nan Bank International Convention Center. Here is what you can expect at the event:
- Learning the latest development of offshore wind in APAC
- Key findings and analysis of energy storage sector
- Networking opportunities throughout the event for Taiwan businesses to connect with international companies
