ECCT SPECIAL LUNCH & TOUR
Nurturing Taiwan's creative industry
Presentation & private tour of Michelangelo exhibition and National History Museum
Guest speaker
Dr Chang Yui-tan 張譽騰館長, Director, National History Museum國立歷史博物館
The development of the cultural and creative industry, which encompasses culture, art, technology and local traditions, is one of the ways that Taiwan's government has identified to shift away from a focus on low-end manufacturing to a higher value-added economic development model. In recent years, Taiwan's artists, musicians, film-makers and designers have received numerous accolades overseas, indicating that there is considerable creative talent in Taiwan that, if nurtured properly, could spur much more commercial success in future. To achieve commercial success in the creative and cultural sphere requires the right environment. Taiwan has many of the right ingredients in place including world class museums, an open society and a commitment by the government to support and nurture creative talent. Taiwan's museums are doing their part by identifying three main missions: to educate, entertain and enrich the cultural experience.
This special event will begin with a lunch and presentation by Dr Chang Yui-Tan, Director of the National Museum of History, after which members will be given an exclusive private tour of the Divine Michelangelo exhibition. In his presentation, Dr Chang will talk about the role of the National Museum of History in educating and inspiring Taiwan's next generation for innovative and creative endeavours.
About the "Divine Michelangelo" exhibition
Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (1475-1564) was one of the three masters of the Italian Renaissance, along with Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael. Their creative influence on subsequent generations of artists was immense. They bequeathed masterpieces and turned a new page in the history of Western art.
To provide a comprehensive introduction to this Renaissance master, the National Museum of History is collaborating with the Casa Buonarroti in Italy to hold "The Divine Michelangelo" exhibition. The exhibition will showcase many important works of Michelangelo, including reproductions of famous sculptures as David and Rome Pieta, the fresco details in the Sistine Chapel and architecture-related works. It will also present 14 pieces of original drawings and manuscripts from Casa Buonarroti. The exhibition will be divided into five sections, including: The Life of Michelangelo: Public and Private (portraits of him, his private life and his studio), Sculpture and Painting of Michelangelo, Architecture and Poetry of Michelangelo; Clash of the Titans: Da Vinci vs. Michelangelo, and Original Manuscripts from Casa Buonarroti.
