The Alibaba Group is China's largest and most successful e-commerce company with businesses spanning core commerce, cloud computing, digital media and entertainment, innovation initiatives and others. Through investee affiliates, the company also participates in the logistics and local services sectors. As part of the company's ongoing mission to find and promote innovative new firms and technologies, Alibaba set up the Taiwan Entrepreneurs fund to invest in growth stage companies founded by Taiwanese entrepreneurs. At this event, the speaker will give an overview of how the fund is working to discover and support the companies and ideas that will drive future innovations in commerce.The Alibaba Group was founded in 1999 by 18 people led by Jack Ma, a former English teacher from Hangzhou, China. The founders started the company to champion small businesses, in the belief that the internet would level the playing field by enabling small enterprises to leverage innovation and technology to grow and compete more effectively in the domestic and global economies. The company's vision is to build the future infrastructure of commerce to enable its customers to meet, work and live at Alibaba, and to last at least 102 years.

About the speaker

Mr. Andrew Lee (李治平) is the Executive Director of Alibaba's Taiwan Entrepreneurs Fund, which focuses on venture The Fund was established in 2015 solely by the Alibaba Group with capital of US$300 million. Prior to his current position Lee was the Chief Financial Officer of EnTie Commercial Bank, a publicly-listed bank on the Taiwan Stock Exchange and a portfolio company in the Longreach Group-managed private equity fund. In this role, he oversaw the strategic and organizational development, budgeting and reporting, human resources management, information technology services and integrated risk management, and helped turn around EnTie Bank into a modern and highly profitable bank in Taiwan. Prior to joining EnTie Bank, Lee was a vice president at the investment banking division of Lehman Brothers, where he was responsible for both the coverage of clients in Taiwan as well as the execution of capital markets and mergers and acquisitions transactions. Lee received his BA and MBA in finance from National Taiwan University.
