The global climate is changing, and will continue to change, in ways that affect the planning and day to day operations of businesses, government agencies and other organisations. Climate change has caused higher temperatures, more frequent or intense extreme rainfall, heatwaves, drought, and storms. Our first speaker Dr. LEE Hong-Yuan will share integrating climate change impacts into risk management and other strategic planning activities in public and private sector organisations.
In a bid to strengthen its national energy security, the Taiwanese Government has set ambitious renewable energy targets to be met by 2025. Attractive feed-in tariffs, a stable regulatory framework, and the country’s strategic location have seen foreign firms keen to invest in this burgeoning market. However, on 29 Nov. Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has proposed a 13% cut to its offshore wind feed-in tariff. The tariff rates set by the MOEA are used to determine power purchase agreements between the state utility provider Taipower and the developers of the 3836MW of projects awarded capacity in April 2018 in the FiT tender. Such low rate has devastated the developers who have expressed frustration over the decision. To share global experiences and offer suggestion to Taiwan, our second speaker Ms. Liming Qiao, Asia Director of Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) will deliver a presentation about the association of pricing policy and supply chain building in wind power.
Dr. Lee's speech will be presented in Mandarin with English translation
