According to an announcement on the website of the Taipei City Government, effective from 1 November 2020, foreign senior citizens over the age of 65 who are residents of Taipei City and have an Alien Permanent Residence Certificate (APRC), will be eligible to apply for Easy Card pensioner’s discount. This will allow eligible persons to receive discounts on all modes of public transport as well as discounts on admission to municipal venues, including gyms and sports facilities. This represents a major breakthrough for long-term senior foreign residents of Taipei. It has been achieved thanks to many years of advocacy by the ECCT’s Better Living committees to grant equal treatment to legal foreign residents of Taiwan and the efforts of Taipei City Mayor Ko and officials in the Taipei City Government.
