Meeting with the Bureau of Energy
An ECCT delegation led by CEO Freddie Höglund visited the offices of the Bureau of Energy (BOE) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), where they met with BOE Director-General Yu Cheng-wei and other BOE senior officials. Representatives from the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) also joined the meeting via conference call from Brussels.
The meeting was held to discuss the forthcoming 2020 Global Offshore Wind Summit-Taiwan, to be held in October 2020 as well as the BOE's future policies for wind energy development, beyond the current phase which runs until 2025.
ECCT members included the Low Carbon Initiative's (LCI) Steering committee Giuseppe Izzo and Eric Yu, as well as Wind Energy committee co-chairs, Bart Linssen and Yuni Wang. Representatives from GWEC included CEO Ben Backwell, Alastair Dutton, Chair of GWEC’s Offshore Taskforce; Liming Qiao, Asia Director; and Joyce Lee, Policy and Operation Director also joined the meeting via conference call from Brussels.
The meeting was held to discuss the forthcoming 2020 Global Offshore Wind Summit-Taiwan, to be held in October 2020 as well as the BOE's future policies for wind energy development, beyond the current phase which runs until 2025. Representatives from the ECCT and GWEC shared some best practices from Europe as well as recommendations from the perspective of global industry players to ensure a healthy and sustainable development of the wind industry in Taiwan while DG Yu and officials shared current plans and the status of future policy planning. At the conclusion, DG Yu thanked the ECCT for sharing experience from Europe, which he said would be shared with his colleagues in other MOEA agencies as they draft policies for the next phase of development of the industry, from 2026 until 2035.
