Our corporate team boasts one of the leading securities and funds practices in Taiwan. We act for domestic and international banks, asset managers and other financial institutions to establish funds and advise on securities and regulatory issues. As an affirmation of our credentials in this field, we also act for industry groups and regulators in new developments and in law and regulatory reforms. In addition, we have substantial capabilities in cross-border M&A as well as in assisting companies to tap public and private funding in international markets working in tandem with our offices worldwide. Among our many “firsts” in Asia, the K&L Gates Taipei office acted for the first foreign companies to go public in Taiwan after Taiwan allowed direct listing by foreign companies on Taiwan securities markets.
We act for a number of investment banks and issuers in global capital markets work. Our team is supported by tax practitioners in the office who regularly advise banks and other financial institutions on the Taiwanese tax implications of transactions and financial instruments.
Our Taipei office also has a leading intellectual property practice that can assist clients on matters ranging from patent registration and IP counseling to licensing and litigation. As intellectual disputes cross jurisdictions, our IP team in Taipei works closely with our counterparts in other offices to field an integrated team to seamlessly litigate IP disputes in other jurisdictions. We serve many of the largest semiconductor companies whose main offices are located in Taiwan and whose operations are found worldwide. Our Taipei-based IP lawyers also assist clients facing IP issues when exporting their goods.
