Power to change the world - Mercedes-Benz Laureus Taiwan Project

Mercedes-Benz Taiwan, the subsidiary of Daimler in Taiwan, has been continuously devoting to become a responsible corporate citizen since established in 2002. Beyond introducing the best state-of-art vehicles with cutting-edge safety technologies, giving back to society has always been our mission. Persisting to make a difference in the lives of people in Taiwan, Mercedes-Benz Taiwan pledges to remain socially and ethically responsible as a company and as individual employees. In 2017, Mercedes-Benz Taiwan received No. 1 in the categories of Foreign Enterprises of 2017 CommonWealth CSR Award. This award gave the company honorable recognition for long-term dedication in Corporate Social Responsibility.

 

 

CSR represents a comprehensive picture of a company's role in society, a key factor in establishing trust and goodwill among stakeholders. For Mercedes-Benz Taiwan, CSR has always been an integral part of the way it does business. It has been a longstanding way for the automobile maker to give back to the local community. In particular, the CSR program of Mercedes-Benz Taiwan focuses on five core areas – People Development, Working Environment, Compliance, Social Engagement, and Environmental Protection.

Laureus comprises the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, the Laureus World Sports Academy and the Laureus World Sports Awards, to form a unique organization that uses the inspirational power of sport as a force for good. The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation uses the positive power of sport to tackle society's most pressing challenges around the globe, supporting projects worldwide.

Globally, Daimler was one of the co-founders of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, and Mercedes-Benz has been a dedicated supporter ever since. The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation's mission is to help young people overcome the limitations imposed by challenging social issues through the support of sports-related community projects. Mercedes-Benz Taiwan understand that the young generation is the future of the society. After two years of hard work, Mercedes-Benz Taiwan extended the scope of the activities in 2016 to support teenagers in need by introducing the Laureus project in Taiwan, becoming the first Asia-Pacific country without the Laureus Foundation located to implement a complete internationally-based sports programme. With the core value "Sport for Good" in mind, Mercedes-Benz Taiwan has started the three-year Laureus Sport for Good program to help Taiwan's teenagers with both their physical and mental wellbeing.
In Taiwan, Mercedes-Benz Taiwan inspires people through the Train the Trainers project - creating a network of skilled leaders to deliver quality educational and athletic programs to communities, and thus improve the lives of young people locally.

Laureus Taiwan Project is cooperating with Chinese Christian Relief Association and Taipower women's basketball team, weekend basketball sessions have been joined by 126 students from Taipei City, New Taipei City, Chupei, and Changhua, with a total of seven reading classes. Weekend basketball sessions are held to promote positive changes in the students' lives through sports and activities. The first "Laureus Taiwan Sport Competition" was held this September where all the teenagers from weekend basketball sessions came together to participate in friendly basketball matches. On the other hand, to spread the influence of Laureus Taiwan Project, Mercedes-Benz Taiwan keeps recruiting more volunteers to share the value of "Sport has the power to change the world". Local trainees like MingDao University are involved in the weekend basketball sessions to support underprivileged teenagers. Laureus Taiwan Project plans on heading south in hopes of spreading the positive impact of Laureus nationwide.
