The LCI is proud to express our warmest welcome to our newest trade office member - Trade Office of Swiss Industries.
The Trade Office of Swiss Industries facilitates and promotes economic, cultural, educational, scientific and tourism exchanges between Switzerland and Taiwan. It also provides practical assistance to Swiss nationals in Taiwan. One of the Trade Office of Swiss Industries’ s main goals is to increase business relationships between Switzerland and Taiwan.
Taiwan is Switzerland’s 5th most important export market in Asia. According to figures of Swiss Customs, exports to Taiwan in 2014 amounted to USD1,800 million. Chemical/pharmaceuticals remained the largest export product category at 35 % of the total. Watch exports represented 27 %. Third in the ranking are machinery and apparatus electronics. Meanwhile, Swiss imports from Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) amounted to USD 1,000 million. Machinery, apparatus, electronics still accounted for the largest share of total imports. Bicycles imports demonstrated a strong expansion. Over 120 Swiss companies are represented in Taiwan. For decades Switzerland has enjoyed a significant trade surplus. Swiss companies employ around 17,500 people in Taiwan (Chinese Taipei).
Following the 2011 lifting of the visa requirement for tourist visits, Taiwanese tourism to Switzerland has risen significantly.
